Frequently asked questions

What is U of Yoga?

U of Yoga is a free online yoga school and reference library. It offers step-by-step pose guides, beginner programs, yoga styles explained, breathwork, meditation, philosophy and gentle yoga for common health goals, written for people of every age, body and country.

Is U of Yoga free?

Yes. Every guide, routine and glossary entry on U of Yoga is free to read. The site is supported by advertising, which never influences our editorial recommendations.

What type of yoga is best for beginners?

Hatha yoga is usually the best starting point because it moves slowly and teaches alignment. Gentle, restorative and beginner Vinyasa classes are also good choices. Our Types of Yoga guide compares 15 styles side by side.

How often should I do yoga to see results?

Two to three sessions of 20 to 45 minutes per week is enough for most beginners to notice better flexibility, posture and mood within four to eight weeks. Short daily practice of 10 to 15 minutes works well too.

Can I learn yoga at home?

Yes. With a mat, a quiet space and clear instructions you can build a safe home practice. Start with beginner poses, move slowly, and use props such as blocks, a strap or a folded blanket.
